1. Who we are
Buy Bud Now (BBN) is a British Columbia-based online cannabis dispensary operating since 2016 out of Delta, BC (5527 44 Avenue, Delta, BC V4K 1C9). Our storefronts are at buybudnow.co and buybudnow.net. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information for anyone who visits our websites, creates an account, or places an order. This policy is governed by Canadian federal privacy law (PIPEDA - the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) and British Columbia's provincial privacy law (BC PIPA - Personal Information Protection Act).
2. Information we collect
We collect three categories of personal information:
Account & order information
- Name (first and last, as it appears on ID).
- Date of birth (for age verification).
- Email address, phone number.
- Shipping address (and same-day delivery address if separate).
- Billing information (Interac sender name, Bitcoin wallet address - we do not store credit card details because we don't accept credit cards).
- Order history and purchase preferences.
- Loyalty program data (points balance, referral history, 2% rewards accumulation).
Technical & usage information
- IP address, browser type, device type, operating system.
- Pages viewed, time on site, referrer URL.
- Site interaction data (product views, cart actions, search queries).
Communications
- Customer service emails, phone call notes, live chat transcripts.
- Newsletter subscription status and interaction with marketing emails.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect for:
- Order fulfillment: processing payments, shipping product, providing tracking, resolving order issues, coordinating same-day local delivery.
- Age verification: confirming customers meet the legal age requirement (19+ in most provinces, 18+ in AB and QC).
- Customer service: responding to inquiries, resolving refund/return cases, providing product recommendations.
- Loyalty program administration: tracking 2% rewards, referral credits, and promo code usage.
- Marketing communications: sending newsletters, promotional emails, and sale event notifications (Madness sales, 420 promos, advent calendar releases) - only if you've opted in.
- Site optimization: analyzing site usage to improve the shopping experience.
- Fraud prevention: detecting and preventing fraudulent orders and account misuse.
- Legal compliance: responding to lawful requests from Canadian regulatory authorities where legally required.
4. When we share information
BBN does not sell personal information to third parties, ever. We share information only in these specific circumstances:
- Shipping partners: Canada Post receives the shipping address, phone number, and package details required to deliver your order. Same-day Lower Mainland courier partners receive delivery details only.
- Payment processors: Interac processes e-Transfer payments through Canadian banking infrastructure.
- Service providers: web hosting, email delivery, live chat platform, and customer service tool vendors receive only the information required to perform their function.
- Legal requirements: when compelled by valid Canadian legal process (subpoena, court order, or lawful government request).
- Business transitions: in connection with the current consolidation with West Coast Cannabis, customer account information transferred subject to the same privacy protections.
5. How we protect your information
BBN uses industry-standard security measures to protect personal information: encrypted HTTPS connections site-wide, encrypted database storage for sensitive fields, access controls limiting employee access to what's required for job function, and regular security review. No system is 100% secure, but BBN has never had a customer data breach in nearly a decade of operation.
6. How long we keep your information
Account and order records are retained for as long as your account is active plus 7 years after account closure - the standard Canadian retention period required for tax and business record purposes. Marketing communications data is deleted immediately upon unsubscribe. Technical usage logs are typically retained for 90 days. Call recordings (where applicable to phone customer service) are retained for 30 days.
7. Cookies and tracking
BBN uses cookies for essential site functionality (cart, login session, checkout), analytics (aggregated site usage patterns), and optional marketing (retargeting only where consented). You can disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings or via the site cookie consent banner. Essential cookies cannot be disabled without breaking site functionality.
8. Your privacy rights
Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA, you have specific rights over your personal information:
- Right of access: request a copy of the personal information BBN holds about you.
- Right of correction: request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right of withdrawal: withdraw consent to marketing communications (unsubscribe any time; unsubscribing does not affect order-related communications).
- Right of deletion: request deletion of personal information subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to complain: file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the BC Information and Privacy Commissioner if you believe your rights have been violated.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] or call 604-616-8353. Response time is within 30 days as required by PIPEDA.
9. Age restrictions
BBN is intended only for adults of legal cannabis purchasing age (19+ in most Canadian provinces, 18+ in Alberta and Quebec). We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that we've collected information from a minor, we delete it immediately.
10. Payment privacy: Interac and Bitcoin
BBN's two payment methods offer meaningfully more privacy than credit cards. Interac e-Transfer is a bank-to-bank transaction - BBN receives your name and the email address you sent the transfer from, but never sees your card number, banking password, or account balance. Bitcoin offers still more privacy: BBN receives only your Bitcoin wallet address and the transaction confirmation, never your name, bank information, or any identifying financial data. For customers who want the maximum privacy in cannabis purchasing, Bitcoin with a fresh wallet address per order provides that.
11. Changes to this policy
BBN may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of the page. For significant changes affecting your rights, we'll notify affected customers via email or account notification. Continued use of the site after posted changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
